WHCS Pitch Ideal For Farming, Admits Aidy

Aidy Boothroyd was quick to acknowledge that Colchester United's home turf at the Weston Homes Community Stadium is more suited for growing vegetables than playing football.

The pitch has taken a battering from the weather over the past couple of months, with the U's hectic schedule of games also adding to the pitch's poor state. Ahead of the eagerly-awaited Essex Derby on Monday Night, U's boss Boothroyd, along with Southend United chief Steve Tilson, have both criticised the turf.

Speaking to BBC Essex: Boothroyd said: 'It's fabulous if you want to grow cabbages and potatoes, it's not particularly good for football.

'The groundsmen are working really hard on it and they're trying to do the best,'
he added.

Blues' counterpart Tilson admitted the pitch is likely to heavily impact the style of play involved in the game.

He explained: 'We're going to have to adjust our game to the conditions. They (Colchester) play the conditions really well because they get the ball forward early.'
