Play On For Play-Offs? U`s Push Three Past Swindon

Colchester United this afternoon revived an ailing season with an impressive three-goal victory against lofty League One rivals Swindon Town.

Coming into the match, the U`s needed and duly got a first win in nine matches which sees them draw level on goal-difference with Huddersfield and push back towards the play-off positions, which until very recently they had occupied since August.

Winger Ashley Vincent atoned for a glaring double-miss against Millwall last weekend by planting the first, a shot which hit the back of the net finally at the third attempt and put his side into the lead.

Following a fine string of saves from safe-hands stopper, Ben Williams, and with a helping hand from the woodwork, United kept their advantage and were able to further it during the second half.

Midfielder Anthony Worthworth scored twice with some precise efforts and moved his season tally into double figures.

U`s manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC local radio at full-time it was a "massive" result for the side who face former boss Phil Parkinson in another potential play-off push decider away at The Valley against Charlton on Tuesday night.
