Are You Watching Aidy? Misfit Thomas Fires Brace!

Colchester United's out-of-favour misfit forward Joel Thomas fired an on-the-field message to Aidy Boothroyd with a classy SPL double strike.

Thomas was signed by former boss Paul Lambert and following a six-month struggle in North Essex, U's boss Boothroyd agreed a temporary return to Scotland with ex-club Hamilton Academical.

And the Frenchman yesterday ended a disappointing spell with two goals in a 4-1 Accies victory. Thomas entered the fray as a substitute, in the 57th minute, and first lashed home a 25-yard wonder strike before finishing a clever run with a neat finish.

Thomas is not the U's only player out on loan to impress in recent weeks, with wing duo Medy Elito and Simon Hackney playing key roles with their respective clubs. Elito, of Cheltenham Town, has found a hot vein of form for the Whaddon Road outfit, making a huge impact with his guile and pace. Meanwhile Hackney is enjoying a productive spell of football with fellow League Two side Morecambe, as they surge for a play-off spot.

Diminutive midfielder David Perkins has put in a number of assured displays while away from the WHCS, along with Scott Vernon and Pat Baldwin.

Interesting summary of those out on loan - I would like to think that some of them have a future but I'd say all mentioned above have seen their last game in U's colours, even Thomas; this display will just help add to his value and I'd suggest Hamilton Academical might just buy him back.

If they have any money they might. Though I think there is a big shortage of readies up over the border.
