Vincent On Verge Of Return With Fitness Check

Last Saturday`s injury victim, winger Ashley Vincent, faces a late fitness check ahead of the upcoming trip to Huddersfield after his stretching-off against Tranmere.

The pacy winger has not been training in recent days according to two news sources but may still be in contention for some involvement, if not in two days time then almost certainly before the end-of-season match against Layton Orient.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd broke the surprise news at a press conference on Thursday morning, saying: "It was the same ankle he injured at Swindon and there was a bit of concern there straight away. But when you`re as quick and as good as he is, you`re a marked man."

In would still appear unsafe to assume one-time Cheltenham man Vincent will be risked however too soon, as the U`s have plenty of potential reinforcement on the right wing and nothing competitive to play for in League One`s remaining matches.

Phil Ifil, Kevin Lisbie and Ian Henderson have all played in that position this season in Vincent`s prolonged absence between autumn and spring.

Agree - what's the point? A relapse would be a lot worse - give Ifil a game!
