The Race To Replace - Magilton Early Favourite

Former Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton has emerged as an early favourite for the Colchester United managerial hotseat.

Following the surprise departure of Aidy Boothroyd, to Championship side Coventry City, rumours and gossip on who the new man at the WHCS will be have been rife. And now it looks as though Magilton - a 41-year-old ex-Republic of Ireland international - is the leading contender for the role. The significant amount of bets backing Magilton for the job has lead a number of bookmakers to suspend better on the ex-Ipswich favourite.

However, other front-runners are thought to include former MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince - who left the Dons due to budget cuts a few months ago. While unemployed Brendan Rodgers, who has endured a mixed managerial career as of yet, is also thought to be in the running. A shock return for two former U's bosses George Burley and Welshman Geraint Williams has been touted too.

Paul Buckle, manager of Torquay United and an ex-U's player, along with Dagenham & Redbridge man John Still are early favourites among many fans and have a chance.

Meanwhile, the U's supremo Robbie Cowling could look for an internal appointment with assisting pair John Ward and Joe Dunne possibly in the running.
