Cowling Doesn`t Feel Betrayed By Boothroyd

Robbie Cowling has insisted he has faith in Colchester United`s managerial selection process and also admitted he can accept Aidy Boothroyd`s decision to take charge at Coventry.

The U`s Chairman and owner is notoriously protective of his managerial recruits and said he thinks he has been vindicated by his choice of first Paul Lambert, since left for Norwich and subsequently the former Watford boss Boothroyd.

"I want ambitious people," Cowling said when asked if he would have liked my loyalty from the pair of managers he has appointed his sacking Geraint Williams in 2008. He added that the intention this time around is not necessarily to change that approach.

"The cub wants to move forward and we`re only going to move forward if there`s people with a vision that they want to progress. Some of them can move forward a little bit faster than the club but I do believe that Colchester United`s in a better position now than when Aidy Boothroyd joined us."

Boothroyd stayed nine months, not long enough to set down roots or, it transpired, to emulate his success which includes an impressive F.A. Cup run and promotion to the Premiership as Watford manager.

"If people come and they are part of the process of moving us on, then that`s great," Cowling added talking to BBC Radio Essex. "I`m a very ambitious person so perhaps I can understand other people`s ambition."

Well, it shows the managers he choose do well to be picked up by bigger clubs so he's doing something right!
