U`s: No Official Tierney Interest

Colchester United have rebuffed the speculation surrounding Marc Tierney`s future, saying there have been no bids from Coventry City or any other club.

The popular full-back was linked in yesterday`s Sunday People in a possible move that could reunite the left full-back with Boothroyd at the Ricoh Arena following his recent Colchester exit.

He has also been touted as a possible signing for other Championship sides Sheffield United, Norwich City and Middlesbrough in recent days.

But Chairman Robbie Cowling moved to cool the talk and explained he hopes former Oldham and Shrewsbury man Tierney will accept what is on offer to him at Colchester.

"Obviously Mark is in the last year of his contract. Again, we`ve offered him improved terms are hopefully he`s going to accept those and stay with the club", said Chirman and owner Robbie Cowling.

If he fails to agree to the contarct, however, the club has already said they will negotiate his sale akin to the circumstances seen when Dean Hammond departed to Southampton last September.

New boss John Ward praised Tierney`s contribution last season, saying: "He`s aggressive, he wants to go foward, he wants to do all the right things you want from a player."
