Ward May Have Followed Aidy - Chairman
Colchester Chairman Robbie Cowling admitted yesterday to the EADT he was sure new U`s boss John Ward would have followed Aidy Boothroyd to Coventry City had he not become manager.
Ward, however, was anxious to dismiss such talk as mere speculation as her refused to let leading questions about either that or a seemingly made-up interest in the Sunday People that Boothroyd`s City were set to swoop for full-back Marc Tierney.
Ward instead preferred to deal in facts and repeatedly also emphasised his enduring friendship with his former U`s colleague.
Ward - who was working with Stockport County without a contract when Aidy first approached him about working for Colchester United nine months ago - also revealed he applied for the job before, following Paul Lambert`s move to Norwich City.
"Coming here with Aidy was something I wanted to do. He and I had the dubious distinction of being removed from our previous clubs on the same day and Aidy contacted me and said: 'If I get back in, would you come with me?` So, it was always a situation of both he and I applying for managerial positions."
Ward, 59, succeeded Boothroyd yesterday for his sixth role as a manager in the professional game.
