New Start Excites Far From Finished Ward
Anybody ready to label new Colchester United boss John Ward a journeyman with nothing to prove in his fifth managerial role should think again - according to the man himself.
The obvious question of Ward having enough motivation to continue coaching at 59 years old arose yesterday as he was unveiled as new manager at Colchester United.
He responded by saying it wasn`t something up for discussion of longer than a moment or two, even though he`s one of football`s older hands, having been in the game for decades.
"It`s a great opportunity for me to say I can still take it on. I`m a coach, I go on the training pitch every day. You`ll not see me in a suit on the touchline, I don`t feel comfortable doing that. I want to be working with players alongside Joe [Dunne]', said Ward.
He continued: "It really excites me, I don`t think I`ve finished yet. There`s a lot of hard work for us to do and we are prepared to do it."
Ward refused to set a target for the 2010-11 season but will privately want to improve on last term`s 72-point eighth-placed League One finish.
