Boss Rules Out Keogh Capture

This website`s last update on the Richard Keogh link has proven prophetic as John Ward confirms he has faith in his current full-back options.

Ward`s links with Keogh previously at Carlisle, resurfacing after interest previously expressed by former boss Aidy Boothroyd who is now and Coventry, will not be enough to convince him that the young defender should surpass current squad players in similar positions, including John White, Phil Ifil, Lee Beevers and Alan Maybury.

Vital Colchester had already mooted that the plethora of other options might cause the move to become a dead duck, especially given the insistence of Chirman and owner Robbie Cowling that some sales and a settled squad are imperative going into the new season.

John Ward told the News and Star yesterday:"I know Richard very well having had him as a player when I was manager at Carlisle but at the moment I don`t think we will see him coming here.

"He`s a defender and we have got defenders. We`ve good full-backs and centre-backs and our priority is elsewhere in midfield."

Common sense, maybe - but you heard it here first!

Yeah, makes sense - we dont need full-backs so must concentrate elsewhere...!
