'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Luckless Lockwood Still Loves Football

Matt Lockwood is now officially a former Colchester United player after his confirmed release as a free agent.

It ends several seasons` toil in Essex under successive managers Paul Lambert and Aidy Boothroyd, who both failed to pick the player before moving on to Norwich and Coventry respectively.

Southend-based Lockwood, a former skipper at Leyton Orient, was signed by Geraint Williams two years ago but recently ended his almost totally fruitless spell with United since an arrival from Nottingham Forest.

"Clubs know what they want to bring in though and there are plenty of people around the game that know the situation that I am in and also what I can bring to a side, so it is just a case of waiting and hoping that people come in for me," said Lockwood talking to Sky Sports over the prospect of his next move.

I heard they couldn't even muster a side to play Ipswich in a friendly. I reckon we will have to loan them a few again. Mind you they can have Heath for free and i'll pay his bus fare
