One Game At A Time For Keen Cousins
Mark Cousins has admitted he was left considering his options after a fine first season in goal for Carlisle signing Ben Williams.
Cousins has been largely a willing understudy during his U`s career and has watched Aidan Davison (since retired, now coaching at Hull City), Dean Gerken (Bristol City) and Jimmy Walker (free agent, with Tottenham last season) and now Williams all start ahead of him between the sticks.
While the club youth graduate is still young, at 23, he admitted that the run he enjoyed under former boss Paul Lambert left a hankering for more.
"It was a little bit frustrating," Cousins told the EADT. "But the way Ben was performing last season - deservedly winning all the player of the year awards - it was hard to complain.
"I did raise the prospect of going out on loan at the end of last season, but when I spoke to Aidy (Boothroyd) he was keen to keep me here," he added.
The stopper now has the chance to make amends as Williams takes his time recovering from an injury sustained in pre-season which should keep him out for at least another ten days.
