England: Jack Wilshere Waits On Selection

There are no guarantees for Jack Wilshere this afternoon ahead of the England Under 21 tie in Colchester.

Arsenal`s full England international Wilshere is only in contention for a start following his omission from Friday`s previous tie against Portugal. He didn`t play, despite featuring for in the Premiership league games for the Gunners, against Blackpool, Liverpool and Blackburn already this season.

Manager Stuart Pearce says he has 19 fit players all challenging for the game while refusing to declare the 18-year-old in his XI for the Lithuania match.

In Tuesday`s Guardian, Pearce explained the player`s mind was not on the game in had last week, although the situation has since improved. "Jack's attitude has been very good. We think his focus has been much better. But it's difficult for a young man. There are a lot of pressures on young players and it's my job to read these situations as best I can."

Wilshire`s situation question, after sections of his private have recently attracted negative media coverage, reflects in some ways that of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. He has been under pressure thanks to revelations made about him in last weekend`s press.

It remains to be seen, ahead of the A-team game against Switzerland tonight as well as this afternoon`s tie, if gambles on their player will be taken.
