U's: Duguid Set For Emotional Col Utd Return

Karl Duguid returns to his spiritual home of Colchester United at the weekend for the first time since the club relocated from Layer Road.

The talismanic former U`s figure will face his old charges competitively and is set for a thunderous reception.

He made 442 first-team appearances in blue and white over nearly fifteen years, spearheading the club`s promotion to the Championship, overcoming a horrific injury problem and also proudly leading his side out against Chelsea in the F.A. Cup as captain.

He told the Plymouth Herald in August: "Obviously, I haven't played there because it's a new ground but it's something to look forward to. I still know a lot people within the club."

Duguid has since played and scored for the Pilgrims in the F.A. Cup (against Arsenal) and also skippered his new team, although primarily as a central-midfielder or right back.

While he played in those positions for Colchester, he was more commonly used as right-winger, sometimes also operating as a striker early during his career.

The ex-number seven is sure to enjoy a great crowd reaction when he steps onto the pitch, selection permitting.

Duguid was not an automatic choice at the start of the current campaign because he has recently been suffering injury but is relishing the prospect facing United.
