Transfer News: Chelmsford Snare U's Coker

Ben Coker today joined non-league side Chelmsford City on a month's loan.

The Colchester United man moved to North Essex during the close season but has failed to feature for the first team. Coker picked up a knee injury early on, and due to his lack of experience, he has never really, as expected, challenged for a first team role.

However, the move down the A12 will give the versatile left-sided player a chance to get some games under his belt and come back fighting.

'We are going to let Ben go to Chelmsford - they wanted to give him some games and he's happy to do that,' boss John Ward told the club's official website.

Ward also spoke of how highly he rates the former Bury Town man, he enthused: 'We've got him on a two year contract and he has time to develop, because we think he is going to be a very good footballer in the future.'

'He missed some of pre-season and our reserve league doesn't facilitate many games, which isn't good enough for guys like Ben,' he added.
