Gillespie eyes starting XI

After coming off the bench to score his first league goal of the season, and rescue Colchester a point at Scunthorpe on Saturday, Steven Gillespie is looking for a place in the starting XI.

This goal, as he told BBC Essex, is something that should 'push his case' a bit more: 'I want to be starting games, and hopefully that will push my case a little bit more.

'All you can do is try and take the opportunities when given them. I'll be looking for as many starts as I can.'

John Ward has this to say of The U's record signing: 'there was always a case for Steven to come on reasonably early into the second period of the game.

'He's had the one chance he's fashioned out there, he will have opportunities to score and thankfully he's put it away.'

The goal cannot have done the 26-year-olds chances of a start next time out any harm at all, and chances are he will now get this.
