Right time for a break
With Colchester having no league one game at the weekend, and with no involvement in the FA cup, they now have a break until January 14th.
John Ward, as he told The Gazette, feels that the break before the Scunthorpe game is a good thing: 'I'm pleased I didn't go chasing another game for this Saturday, because I think the guys need a wee breather.
'We can now rebuild it, the week going into the Scunthorpe game.
'We were competitive against MK Dons and we've three wins out of five games.
'I'm sure a lot of teams would like that and we`ve come close to getting something from the Dons game.'
Colchester are currently a handful or points outside the league one play-off places but with a small squad injuries and suspensions take their toll.
Nevertheless Ward feels that The U's are 'in decent shape': 'we're in decent shape - we haven't got lots of bodies and I need to work with them pretty quickly, in terms of game time.
'But this group are fine.
'When they need defending I'll defend them and when I can't, I'll come and tell you.'
The break should allow Anthony Wordsworth and Kayode Odejayi to get themselves fully fit for the Scunthorpe game, according to Ward.
