Colchester keen on Antonio return

Colchester keen on Antonio return

John Ward always spoke highly of Michail Antonio during his highly successful three-month loan spell with Colchester earlier in the season.

At the end of this loan he returned to parent club Reading and the winger has featured three times as a sub since returning to them in November.

Reading always wanted a 'closer look' at Antonio but now Ward, as he told The Gazette, is hopeful that the winger can return to The U's: 'Brian McDermott wanted Michail to have a chance of first-team action at Reading.

'I will make that phone call and Brian and his assistant Nigel Gibbs are very much aware that I have asked to be kept informed about Michail.

'Michail very much enjoyed his time here and we very much enjoyed having him here.'

The 21-year-old scored four goals in 16 appearances during his loan spell.
