'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Following the trend

Following Colchester disappointing home defeat against struggling Chesterfield at the weekend some fans again voiced their disapproval.

John Ward, as he told BBC Essex, brushed aside this criticism and feels that the frustration shown by some U's fans is just them 'following a trend' of the modern day football fan: 'I think they copy things. Arsene Wenger's not very good at the moment and probably Andre Villas-Boas too.

'I think it's a trend that football manager's tend to get.'

He was not having a go at Ian Henderson, who missed a golden opportunity to secure Colchester a late draw but spurned this, but did point out that this miss would probably be 'his fault' too: 'I like Ian Henderson, he'll play again next week.

'But he misses a chance and it's my fault. It's the way of the world and the job I do. I just get on with it.'

Ward does have a point in many ways but as much as a manager has the right to react to his critics I think they do have to be careful what they do say about the fans...

At this point I do not think that he has overstepped a mark but much more and it would have been cutting it fine.
