Ward: We've given them something to smile about
After a nightmare trip to Oldham on Tuesday Colchester could have seen this compounded with a defeat at Boundary Park, although they managed to come away with a point.
The U's only arrived at Boundary Park a little over 30-minutes before kick-off, but he did not want to use that as an excuse mind: 'arriving late could have been an easy excuse but the players dismissed it to the back of their minds. I have no complaints at all about their approach to the game and we worked very hard as a team.'
They might have only taken 61 fans, and it might not have been as much about 'quality' that brought The U's a 1-1 draw, but the manager was happy with his lot and thinks it gives people 'something to smile about' all in all: 'it was industry more than quality which gave us a share of the spoils and I'm pleased with the character we showed. You always have matches like that over a 46-game season and you always have to work hard for anything at Oldham on a wet Tuesday night.
'We had 61 fans here and that was fantastic. I'm glad we've given them something to smile about.
'Overall it's a decent night for the players, the staff and those 61 fans, so I'm not going to grumble.'
