Colchester's 3-0 win over Preston at The WCHS on Saturday has been heralded The U's best at home this season by John Ward.
This was a win that was for the fans, with Ward fully believing they deserved this and knows how much it meant to The U's faithful: 'that was good a victory as we've had here, in terms of rewarding the supporters. You could see the reaction from the supporters at the end and you could see that there was a really strong atmosphere throughout the whole game.
'We were determined to win on the pitch and I think the supporters off the pitch wanted the game won as well and we've won it together.
'We've had to fight and work and it's been a very physical afternoon, but we stood up to that and we haven't been bullied. When we've had the opportunity we've played some good football and we've passed and moved.
'The final goal that we scored was the icing on the cake, the way that we moved and broke. That was really pleasing, because that's something that we've tried hard to do. You have to mix up your game sometimes because otherwise, you might get beaten and we've done that which is credit to us as a team.'
Two goals from the inform Steven Gillespie with a late third from Andrew Bond enabled Colchester to complete the double over Preston.
