Ward: Performance full of effort and desire

John Ward couldn't fault the effort or commitment of his players in the weekend draw at Wycombe, so took the positives from this.

Colchester didn't manage to create much but the collective 'strength as a group' that The U's have is Ward's main focus of attention following the 0-0 draw: 'we haven't had a huge number of shots on target but there's been good strong defending and good strength as a group.

'We've hit a spell at the moment where everyone puts in a good shift, we can play better and we know that, but we've been talking about having the right attitude.

'I didn't think it would be 0-0, Wycombe were confident they would score goals so this is a good clean sheet for us. It was a performance full of massive effort and desire and I was really impressed with the substitutes who came on to try to change the game, the group's very much together.

'With 20 minutes to go I was looking for some fresh legs but I haven't got loads of options and we have some big games coming up.'

Colchester have been some peoples 'outside bet' to sneak into a play-off spot, this draw did little to help them but even so The U's manager knows his side are still in a 'strong position' and wants to challenge: 'it's good for us we're in a strong position in the division to try to take on the teams at the top of the league.'
