Ward: We didn't trouble their goalkeeper

Colchester has to settle for a point against 10-man Stevenage on Saturday and John Ward wasn't entirely pleased with this.

The U's controlled large portions of the game but Ward was unhappy that the Stevenage keeper wasn't tested enough: 'I liken it to the Rochdale game where we got 75 per cent of the game right but we didn't get the important part at the top end right.

'We didn't really trouble their goalkeeper and that's the frustration because we've had a lot of ball in the second half and got within 30 yards but not worried him.

'That's unlike us because we had people like Kayode Odejayi, Freddie Sears, Steven Gillespie and Ian Henderson on the pitch. We had a right good go of it in terms of our attackers in the team but we haven't been able to find a winner.'

One positive though was once again Colchester have come up against another side pushing for promotion and haven't been beaten, although Ward was again of the viewpoint that he is surprised that his disappointment is that they weren't put to the sword: 'it's interesting that we've come to another top-eight club and we're disappointed that we've not beaten them on their own patch.'
