Result: Walsall 3-1 Colchester

Colchester's outside hopes of forcing themselves into the play-offs have all but ended following defeat at Walsall on Tuesday night.

It all started so well for The U's with Anthony Wordsworth (11) giving the visitors an early lead, but by half time Walsall had taken the lead with goals from Emmanuel Ledesma (38) and Mat Sadler (44).

Colchester's hopes of forcing a draw, which they have specialised in during recent weeks, were ended when George Bowerman (73) secured a 3-1 win for the hosts.
