John Ward was left frustrated that Colchester failed to kill off Exeter before they fought back to secure a 1-1 draw at the weekend.
Exeter equalised late on against The U's but Ward felt that their goal shouldn't have been anything more than a consolation when it came: 'it is disappointing really because that should have been a blot on a three or four-goal win because we had enough opportunities to score and have the game put to bed.
'It should have been a statistic that goal. But it means a point for both teams rather than being a nominal figure.
'We have played some very good teams in different circumstances and we have come out pretty well.'
Some play the 'tiredness card' at times, and with nine games in March Ward could have done that quite easily!
But this was something that he avoided: 'I don't think we tired, that is an easy angle to use. I have been really pleased with the fitness and stamina of the team, it is our ninth game in March and we have only lost one of them and that is a fantastic effort. I can't speak highly enough of their attitude and approach and their fitness levels.'
Could, and should, Colchester have won at Exeter at the weekend?
