Interest has been shown in Steven Gillespie before although it wasn't expected that he would leave Colchester this summer, but this has happened and fairly quickly.
An undisclosed fee as seen the striker depart The WHCS for newly promoted to the football league, and big spending, Fleetwood.
With the money offered and the chance for the Liverpudlian to move back to his native north west it was a deal, as chief exec Robbie Cowling told the official website, The U's couldn't refuse.
The money raised will now be reinvested into reinforcements this summer: 'when we were approached and were offered the fee, it was one where we felt that we couldn't turn it down.
'We are working hard for next season and the transfer fee we have received goes into the budgets for John to work with.
'At this stage, the manager is working to bring people in, focussing on the replacements that will have us ready for next season. There is still plenty of time yet for him to achieve that for the start of the season in nine weeks time.
'The Fleetwood interest gave Steven a chance to move back to Liverpool, and he was keen to achieve that. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Steven all of the best at his new club.'
How disappointed and/or surprised are you to see Gillespie leave The U's?
