Colchester edged out by Ipswich

Ipswich proved just too strong for Colchester on Wednesday night when they went away with a victory in pre-season.

The U's were two-nil down by the break, which would disappoint John Ward, but the second half fightback was promising with Clinton Morrison pulling a goal back. This wasn't enough though with the Championship outfit going away with a 2-1 win in the end.

Defeat is defeat, whatever way you look at it and at whatever level but there are exceptions to this rule really and pre-season in many ways follows this throughout its entirety.

Performances as a team, and individually, are what you look for (as well as building match fitness and sharpness) and Ward would have seen enough encouragement against a good higher-league opponent to be positive.
