'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ward - It was a terrific game of football

Colchester and Portsmouth played out a 2-2 draw on Tuesday night and John Ward has branded the game a "terrific advert for league one".

Ward said: 'It was a terrific game of football and a terrific advert for our division. I had no surprises at the way Portsmouth played.

The disappointment for The U's boss was a failure to hold onto a lead having come from behind to go two-one up in the closing 10-minutes: 'We were disappointed because we were leading with only a couple of minutes to go. But you couldn't really deny Portsmouth the point, because it was that sort of game of football.

'Even at 2-2 we went back to try and win the game again and it was an open kind of game and I'm sure that the supporters enjoyed it.'

If Colchester can be involved in more games like that this season there will be plenty of happy fans during it, but Ward will be looking for more to end in successful wins though!
