Colchester United are pleased to welcome local businessman and football fan Robbie Cowling onto their board, following the transfer of the controlling interest of the club from Mr Peter Heard to Mr Cowling.
The sums involved have not been disclosed but Robbie has stated that: 'The structure of the deal reflects Peter Heard's devotion to the club and my long-term commitment to help support the club financially.'
Robbie has tremendous respect for the current board and administration team at Colchester United and recognises their amazing achievements taking the team from the Conference league to the Championship with extremely limited resources.
For these reasons he has asked Peter Heard to stay on as chairman and to continue to run the club with the existing board .
Robbie is well known for his Tiptree based Internet business JobServe.com, which he launched 13 years ago as the world's first online recruitment website.
JobServe have been linked to Colchester United before as club's main sponsor for two seasons. His company are currently the main shirt sponsor for West Ham United, the team Robbie has supported from birth and who are themselves currently involved in unrelated take-over discussions.
TThe U's are determined to maintain Championship status and although they recognise a tremendous battle is on their hands in the short term they believe Robbie's appointment will prove beneficial to their long-term objectives.
