A fifth defeat in a row was suffered by Colchester at Walsall on Saturday afternoon to see The U's miserable run extended into Christmas.
Walsall should have opened the scoring, having at least two clear-cut chances, before Colchester were denied by the crossbar before the break.
On the hour Walsall did take the lead when Febian Brandy (61) opened the scoring. The bar denied The U's once more before the end of the game with them going down 1-0.
