U's Training Ground Plans Passed

The U's have this evening had their application for extended training ground hours successfully passed by Colchester Borough Council in the face of opposition from local residents.

The meeting, which lasted for around two hours, saw the U's come out in favour of a 7-4 vote which sees the club continue with their set up that would permit Category 2 status.

Chairman Robbie Cowling had previously suggested that the facility would have to be scrapped and the youth system removed should the application be rejected, and this evening he has labelled the decision as "one of the most important decisions ever to have affected this club" whilst speaking to the official website.

"We feel we have compromised a lot and we don't think the impact may be as big as it has been reported, but I am just very pleased to have got this decision," he continued.

"It means that it will allow us to get through the audit for Category Two status and continue to develop excellent young players like Drey Wright."

With Drey providing such excitement to supporters in weeks gone by, coupled with the youth team's successes in this season's FA Youth Cup, it is certainly promising news for everyone concerned with the club as we look towards the future.
