U's Transfer Quest Proving Tough

Joe Dunne has confessed that the U's ongoing quest to bring in experienced heads in the fight against relegation has been harder than anticipated.

The Irishman is desperately trying to sign players with experience that could prove crucial in battling away to pull the U's clear of the bottom four, but despite the expectation of a couple of signings by this weekend, nothing has yet materialised.

'The search is a lot harder than I thought it would be,' he admitted to BBC Essex. 'I thought that players who weren't getting into their teams would want to come out and play, so I'm just disappointed that we haven't attracted one or two who aren't playing.'

His comments indicate that perhaps those targets expected to have arrived before tomorrow's now-postponed fixture at Hartlepool are content with sitting at home and picking up their pay packets.

That said, maybe they wouldn't be right for us after all if we're looking for players who can dig in and help claw the U's out of trouble; are players of this attitude going to be more of a hindrance than a help?

Dunne continued: 'The search goes on and we're still waiting on one or two clubs to get back to us some others.

'The clubs have been very good by accepting that we can only pay a small loan wage, but it just comes down to the player and their agents.'
