Izzet Progressing Quickly

U's skipper Kem Izzet remains a doubt for this Saturday's visit of Walsall, leaving a hole in the U's midfield with the absence of Anthony Wordsworth as well.

Amidst all the speculation of a departure for Woody, he is set to sit out for the second game of his two-match suspension regardless, whilst Izzet is still recovering from an injury sustained in the recent 1-0 defeat at high-flying Doncaster Rovers.

Speaking to the official website, Kem admits that the progress has been quicker than anticipated.

He said: 'It's getting there and moving along quicker than we though, so we'll see how it goes and hopefully I can start training this week.'

How much that training is set to help Kem in the current weather remains open to question, with the U's having to seek alternative venues due to the wintry weather.

Now aged thirty-two, Joe Dunne's captain suggests the change of scenery isn't always the best.

'You just have to get in where you can, but it is difficult in these conditions,' he confesses.

'Your body reacts differently to different surfaces, especially for us older ones! It's not ideal for the joints in your knees and so on, but you get on with it, manage that differently, get your work done and prepare for the Saturday.'

With Izzet missing as well as Wordsworth, it looks likely that a midfield trio of Marcus Bean, Alex Gilbey and Chelsea loanee, Billy Clifford, will retain their places for the game with Walsall.
