Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson insists that although the Blades performance in yesterday's 3-0 win over the U's wasn't up there amongst the best of the season, the result is the perfect marker to take into the season's final third.
Joe Dunne's U's side were comprehensively put aside by the Yorkshire side at Bramall Lane yesterday afternoon, with a fourth-minute penalty by Barry Robson setting the scene for another miserable away day; indeed, the U's have League One's worst away record.
However, speaking to the BBC, Wilson insists that his side have come away with less this season after better performances than that.
'It wasn't one of the better performances, no, although the scoreline suggests so,' he stated. 'We've had others that aren't as emphatic as that in the scoreline and yet better performances.
'But to perform to that standard and get three goals at this stage of the season is a nice marker for us, as other teams up there are feeling the pressure now and some results are going in our favour, too.'
The victory over Dunne's men marked a third in succession for the Blades, who had previously been on a run of five games without victory that had seen the side slide from top position over Christmas.
Wilson's side have now returned to within one point of top spot, and he points to the players' self-belief as a key reason for this.
'We've come off the back of three very tough games where the boys have called on everything in determination, commitment and fitness,' he continued.
'We've persevered, kept doing what we believe in to try and pass the ball, and in some games we've had the luck, and in some we haven't.
'But we've kept the self-belief to turn it around and we knew we weren't doing a great deal wrong. Confidence always helps when you're not winning, and they've now got that.'
