Shrewsbury Praise For The U's

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner is full of praise for the U's and the club's support ahead of this weekend's clash at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Turner, who has been in charge at the Shrews for nine years now across two different periods, came to Essex to watch the 2-0 defeat to MK Dons on Tuesday night.

However, although Joe Dunne's side did succumb to that two-goal deficit on the night, the Shrews boss was impressed with what the U's served up and is aware that his players are in for a difficult test.

Speaking to the club's official website, Turner said: 'I thought Colchester did quite well and they were a bit unfortunate, hitting the woodwork and having one or two chances.

'There was a great atmosphere when they started chanting 'the U's are staying up' and the supporters were really behind them despite the fact they were losing 1-0 and then 2-0.

'I was impressed with the support they've got and I'd imagine there will be a good atmosphere on Saturday.'

Shrewsbury themselves are all but mathematically certain of survival now, finding themselves six points clear of the drop with two games to go. Scunthorpe would require a 19-goal swing to overturn the Shrews.

With both sides looking set for survival, there is every chance that Saturday could be a carnival atmosphere at the Weston Homes - especially if the U's can bag an early goal to settle any remaining nerves.

It is also set to be the highest crowd of the season and to top 5,000, so bring on the weekend!
