Scunny Pleased To Have A Chance

Scunny Pleased To Have A Chance

So it all comes down to the final game of the 2012/13 League One season for the U's to determine where they will be playing their football next season, and it is a two-horse race between Joe Dunne's side and Scunthorpe United for dishonour of relegation to League Two.

Scunthorpe picked up an impressive 1-0 win at MK Dons yesterday afternoon to keep their hopes of survival alive, and a three-goal swing accompanying a Scunny victory and U's defeat will see Dunne's men drop through the trap door.

Next week sees Scunthorpe play host to Swindon, who secured their play-off spot yesterday afternoon, and whether this means that the Robins will ease up ahead of their play-off fixtures or look to build momentum remains to be seen.

Speaking to the BBC after the game, Iron boss Brian Laws was just pleased to have something to play for after seemingly blowing their chances by losing 2-1 at Bury on Tuesday night.

'It takes us to the last game with some hope,' he explained. 'Goal difference will be key, but at least we have a bite of the cherry and the players have won some self-pride back.

'We'll look at that Bury game and kick ourselves even more, but we're still in with a shout and have a bit of fight left in us. Mentally and physically everybody was down after Tuesday, but credit to the players.

'Hopefully we will get a big crowd behind us and, now that their play-off place is safe, how do they approach the game?

'You never know, so let's get everyone together and have a right go at it.'
