Eastman Reflects On Carlisle

U's central defender Tom Eastman has reflected on scoring the U's second decisive goal in the final day showdown at Carlisle as he looks ahead to a summer break before it all starts again in June.

Joe Dunne has revealed that the U's team will return for pre-season training in the middle of June but, still thinking of the recent weeks' events at Carlisle, Eastman said the U's were always heading to Cumbria looking for three points.

Just a point would have been enough for the U's, but the side went back to Essex with a 2-0 victory and Eastman netted his solitary goal of the season to double the advantage and guarantee all three points.

And the U's avoiding defeat proved necessary come full-time, with a flurry of late goals giving Scunthorpe a much-needed two-goal cushion of their own - something Tom admits was always likely.

'We had to go there and win really, that was the aim,' he told the club's official website. 'I was lucky to get the goal and it summed up how the afternoon went for us. I was really pleased that we stayed up.

'Scunthorpe were always going to go out strongly as they had nothing to lose, so they were always going to be going out for goals and we needed those four points from the last two games.

'Even though the draw with Shrewsbury wasn't ideal, it was a big point to set us in good stead.'
