Ex-Dons Full Back Signs For U's
Former MK Dons full back Mason Spence joined the U's over the summer as the club continue to bolster their development squad ranks with promising youngsters.
The U's development squad was formed last summer to bridge the gap between the youth team and the first team and Spence, who has played for the Welsh U19s squad, has signed a one-year deal with the U's.
Spence, eighteen, has featured for the U's U21s on a few occasions as the club began to take a look at him towards the end of last season, and he has put pen to paper on a one-year deal to try and break into the first team picture.
A full-back who likes to attack and take the ball forward, Spence was released by MK Dons in the summer and, speaking to the official website, admitted it was an opportunity to show what he was capable of after the Dons setback.
'I'm over the moon to be signing for Colchester United,' he admitted. 'It's a great opportunity for me to develop my game further and continue my career.
'It's a chance for me to show everyone what I can do and to maybe prove people wrong.
'I played in Sunday League football as a centre forward and have kept that attacking mentality since being converted to a full back.'
Joe Dunne has employed full backs to get forward and attack since he took over, and, as Spence has alluded to, it is a mould in which he fits.
