'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ibehre Signs Two-Year U's Deal

One of the more eagerly anticipated bits of U's news this summer was the signing of Jabo Ibehre to a longer term deal after the striker's short term contract expired in the summer months.

Ibehre, who originally joined the U's on loan from MK Dons back in September upon Joe Dunne's appointment, made a big impression on the U's faithful for his likeable character and tireless work rate, as well as netting some important goals in the U's quest for survival.

He penned a deal until the end of the season in January after his departure from stadium:mk, and speculation was rife over his future with a number of other clubs believed to be interested in the experienced, powerful front man who had picked up a number of the U's Player of the Year awards at the end of the season.

However, before the U's headed to Ireland on a pre-season training week, Ibehre signed on the dotted line for a two-year deal with Joe Dunne's men, to set himself up as the focal point of the U's attack for the upcoming campaigns.

It was a deal that was well-received by the U's fans, and Ibehre himself admitted to the official site that he was also extremely pleased to have sorted his future out.

'After last season, I'm looking forward to some good times here,' he explained. 'I'm absolutely delighted and getting back with the lads will be good.

'I can't wait to crack on with the new season.'

Jabo had implied he had more than the U's offer on the table with a tweet that he made days before signing, saying 'Rather be happy or rich... ?'.

Assuming it was football-related, Vital Colchester can't help but think he has chosen the happy option, so here's hoping for happier times on the pitch this season!
