Friday Night Football Returns!
Friday night football returns to the U's this evening for the visit of Carlisle, evoking many memories of floodlit games at Layer Road when it was much more common.
Whilst the Friday night games are less frequent nowadays, they still had a special atmosphere when they do come around, and it is one that U's boss Joe Dunne is looking forward to this evening.
Dunne, of course, played in many Friday night games himself whilst the U's were at Layer Road, and speaking to BBC Essex in the build up to this evening's encounter, he reflected on what makes them so special.
He said: 'Friday nights bring back the memories of old at Layer Road. It's different under the lights, and it was always special back at Layer Road.
'It gives us an opportunity to get a positiv result going into the weekend; an opportunity to get a foothold, set yourself up for the weekend and get one up on the teams around you.'
Indeed, three points tonight could send his U's side to the summit of the League One table, although a victory for Wolves in their Friday night game would also see them reach double figures in points.
'When I used to play in those games,' Dunne continued, 'it let you set yourself up for the weekend and then look at what other teams can do on the Saturday.
'Hopefully we can get some new fans through the doors too as that would help everyone.'
Here's to another special night under the floodlights and to three points that move the U's into the top two, at least, of the early League One table.
It's certainly a far more positive scenario than any from last season!
