U's U21s Fall Short

The U's development squad were beaten 3-0 in a friendly with West Ham United last night at the Weston Homes.

The U21s are without a permanent league to play in this season following the failure to obtain Category Two status, and will instead be looking to arrange regular friendlies.

In the first of those, the side thumped an Arsenal squad resoundingly with an exciting display, but it wasn't quite to be last night.

Despite having chances of their own, the U's went in at half-time a goal down and two more second half strikes would consign the side to a three-goal defeat.

Ryan Melaugh did put the ball over the line mid-way through the first half for the U's, but he was to be denied by the raised offside flag.

Both Marcus Bean and Josh Thompson featured, with Thompson set to start at Coventry on Sunday in the vacancy left by Magnus Okuonghae's midweek dismissal.
