Colchester 3 - 0 Southend

Colchester gained their seventh successive victory at Layer Road beating neighbours Southend.

Southend skipper Kevin Maher was Deservedly Sent Off for attacking his counterpart Karl Duguid.

Mark Gower who was cautioned for remonstrating with Referee Steve Bennet soon followed.

Gower scythed down Duguid who had beaten him with pure skill to gain a second booking and the resulting Red.

Enjoying more space, Colchester right back and hot property Greg Halford advanced down the right to score past Flahavens far post with a shot from 20+ yards.

Pat Baldwin scored the second after a shot from Jackson was saved and the rebound from Iwelumo came back to him off of the cross bar.

Chris Barker was sent from the field shortly after for a second caution, but Colchester were not finished and after good work down the left by Skipper and Man of the Match Karl Duguid, Jamie Cureton fired home the third.
