Interest But No Firm Bids
Kevin Keen is under no illusion that George Moncur, like several other members of the Colchester side, is capable of playing at a 'higher level' and isn't surprised by the rumours surrounding him.
However, he's played down the reports of offers coming in for him and insists he wants to keep him at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Former West Ham man Moncur, who played a key role in the FA Cup win over Charlton, has been linked with Sheffield United and Championship sides MK Dons and Nottingham Forest, with the boss telling the Gazette.
'There's rumours and speculation but we haven't had any firm bids for George. We have several players at the club who are capable of playing at a higher level and he's one of them. It's no wonder his name has been mentioned but I want them to stay here at Colchester.'
His 10th-goal of the season, with him the Colchester top goalscorer, came against Charlton last weekend with that bringing the reported interest from League 1 rivals Sheffield United and Championship side MK Dons but the 22-year-old is under contract with the U's until 2017 so there isn't any immediate hurry to sell and unless an offer 'too good to refuse' comes in (or he makes it clear he wants to leave) and exit wouldn't seem likely until the end of the season would it?
Defender Marley Andrews will hope to be part of this long-term future with Colchester but recently he headed out for a loan spell with Maldon & Tiptree.
Andrews, who has been with the club since the age of six, will link up with his U's U21s boss Steve Ball (who of course is the boss at Maldon too) for an initial one-month spell with Ball telling the Official Website after the loan was confirmed.
'I have worked with Marley for several years, he is a dynamic defender and he needs to gain some more experience at this level of football. He is a fantastic addition to our squad and it is a signing that will work for all parties, for us, Marley and Colchester United. I am sure, he will be a success at Park Drive.'
