Colchester fans complain of abuse

Colchester fans have complained at the abuse they received from home fans after the final whistle at Saturday's East Anglian Derby.

A young family were abused by Ipswich supporters as they left the family enclosure, The family's two young sons attending their first ever away game felt frightened and intimidated by Ipswich fans looking for trouble.

The incident was reported to the a police officer standing close by.

Due to Ipswich's substandard ticketing policy many Colchester fans bought tickets for home areas and were set upon by the home support when showing their colours or celebrating Karl Duguids early Goal, this resulted in about a dozen being removed, incidents like this would not happen in any other sport in the country.

On a whole the day passed off with little incident, a couple arrests were made later on for unrelated incidents following the game.

Maybe next year Ipswich will realise the interest this fixture creates and rethink their ticketing allocation for fans from a town just 15 miles down the road, lets face it they need the money!!!!!

Agree about the ticket allocation. The ground was 2,000 short of capacity, and that could have easily been sold to Col U fans. It will be a shame if young families – the type of people that football should be attracting – are put off and never experience the good side of the game.
