U's loan Man City's Mills

Geraint Williams has bolstered his Colchester squad by signing central defender Matthew Mills on a month loan contract from Premiership side Manchester City.

The youngster follows the example of both Ritchie Jones and Hogan Ephraim, who also obtained first-team experience with short-term deals at Layer Road earlier in the season.

Formally of Southampton, Mills joined City a year ago, but has failed to make much of an impact, with limited scope for first-team football.

He will provide cover for the injured Pat Baldwin and Gary Richards, the latter of whom is making a slow but steady return to first-team action.
