'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gerken saved my bacon, says Kev

Colchester United`s 2-1 victory at Southampton last Friday - one of the best performances of the season - was only the club`s fourth win on the road, but Kevin Watson admitted yesterday that his late gaffe, a hazardous backpacks, almost threw the three points away "with one of worst passes" of his career.

Watson, who played the ball strait into an oncoming Saints attacker on the edge of his own penalty area with barley any time remaining, said: " [It was] one of the worst passes… I`ve ever made, moments before the end.

"Thankfully Deano got me out of jail with a fantastic save at the foot of his left post.

"Why I never belted the ball upfield I don`t know and the boys let me know about it - you could say the air was blue for some time afterwards."
