A poll on Vital Football Luton has revealed that former Colchester boss Phil Parkinson, now a number two at Charlton, would be a popular choice to assume control of the League One outfit, following the sacking of Mike Newell.
Newell was sacked for gross misconduct, and one rant too many, after asking a perhaps legitimate question after a recent defeat to fellow strugglers Hull City:"Where's the £9m gone? Give that to me and I'll get five experienced players in. I'll pay them fortunes and we'll get ourselves out of it."
He added: 'It takes three or four years to build a reputation as a decent manager and three months to lose that reputation. But if you take the four best players out of any team it will hurt them. Someone should investigate what is going on at this club.'
The troubled London outfit have been linked in the media with former Leeds man Kevin Blackwell, touted to secure a short-tem deal until the end of the season, which has been backed by 20% of the votes on Vital Luton during their second poll on the topic of successor.
Parkinson was the winner of their first poll, with 41% of the votes first time around, while current caretaker Brain Steen was not a popular choice.
The poll omitted former hero Mick Hartford, Colchester`s current number two, after a statement from the United this week said that they would fight to keep him in Essex.
A personal suspicion is that former boss Parky, who endured an unsuccessful stint with Hull City earlier in the season, will not take the job, instead preferring to restore his reputation alongside Alan Pardew.
