'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mills Returns to City

Defender Matthew Mills, 20, has returned to Manchester City at the end of his loan spell, admitting that he wasn`t confident of maintaining a first-team place at Layer Road.

The centre-half has spent the last two months on loan in Essex, impressing in eight appearances for the Us, but has now opted to go back to the Premiership side, confident that he can push for a place in the starting XI amid speculation that City skipper Sylvan Distan might leave the in the summer.

Mills told the Evening Gazette last week: 'I wasn't really guaranteed first team football at Colchester week, week out.

'I think I would have stayed if I had been but now I just want to push towards the first team at Manchester City.'

Meanwhile, it appears that Colchester have decided not to sign West Brom`s Welsh midfielder Rob Davis after his recent trial. Davis had stated in the media: "I just want to be playing first-team football."

It now seems Rob will have to wait for another club to come in for him after Geraint Williams cooled on his interest in the player.

In other news, U's youngster Craig Hughes has joined Cambridge United on a month's loan, with Colchester suggesting it may lead to a permanent move.
