Colchester United have announced that there will be no increase in season ticket prices next season, which is good news for fans, who had feared a rise due to financial demands created by the club’s imminent move to a new Community Stadium.
With the club set to review their season ticket purchase schedule on Easter Monday, and the revelation that the average attendance at Layer Road has been 5,400 spectators per game, the hat-trick of positive announcements is completed.
“We are delighted with the support we have received at this level,” said United’s Chief Executive, Marie Partner, reflecting on a highly successful maiden season in the Championship.
“Next season will be the last at Layer Road and, by not putting up prices, we hope that we will see more fans than ever commit to the club and the excitement that football at this level brings, as the end of an era arrives.”
Colchester could not have asked for a better platform from which to leap into a new stadium, where construction plans currently await a final signature before work can begin at the Cuckoo Farm site.
“There have been far more highs than lows this season for all connected with our football club, with the team currently possessing the fourth best home record in the division – a remarkable achievement.”
The U’s also currently have the cleanest disciplinary slate, and have been the surprise package in English Football’s second tier: “We can now look forward to building on the success of this season and toward aiming even higher in 2007/8,” she added.
