Jamie Cureton Can't Hide Joy

Colchester United striker Jamie Cureton, who still hopes to win the Championship Golden Boot award, has been voted as Colchester United`s official Player of the Year ahead of Sunday`s final game of the season against Crystal Palace.

The 31-year old, who has 24 goals so far in all this season, told the local Evening Gazette, "It's an honour.

"Everyone has had a really good season so to be given this award is a massive achievement for me."

Cureton, who feared that this may be his last chance at top level, has also won both the official Player of the Year award and accompanying trophy.

He added: "It's a team game and everyone is involved but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't want to win awards during my career and look back on them."

The award reflects the voting in Vital Colchester`s Player of The Season Poll, which put Cureton as top with 56% of the votes, followed by young and emerging 'keeper Dean Gerken. In at third came Kem 'Hatchet Man` Izzet.
